Custom Camera Van Build - Southern California
We are never short of projects here at LUS. Last week, we were able to send off another customized camera van to its new home.
A customer out of California wanted our deep-water camera system installed in a brand-new Ford Transit-350. As with any installation, we discussed the options with the customer and came up with a plan based on their needs and requests. Starting from scratch, our amazing production team spent two months working on the details of the van. Once the van arrived, the installation process went into full swing.
We started with the shell of the van and then took measurements to get the full details of the van. From there, a 3D model is designed based on customer feedback and integration of their needs.
This customer requested 4000’ of steel coaxial cable for surveying deep wells which pairs with our Model 40 high-torque electric winch. This type of depth requires our DC5150 deep water dual view 360 degree camera with capabilities to see in 30+” boreholes and up to 5000’ submergence. The camera van was fully outfitted for their deep water camera needs with an extendable boom arm, and a heavy duty tripod for help maneuvering around tricky wellheads. In addition to our standard layout, they were given a third video monitor in the back of the camera van, and an extended motor controller to operate the winch from inside and outside.
Operating the camera in extreme temperatures can also be a factor in deciding how to outfit a vehicle, which is why this customer requested a separate AC installation in the main operators area. In order to accommodate this large pull of power, we had backup batteries installed in the van for ‘off the grid’ operation when needed. Heating and cooling require large amounts of power, so extra power options are necessary, and we set the customer up for future success in different scenarios so they are never without power.
